Concert Attendance

THE ONLY EXCUSABLE ABSENCES ARE PER-ARRANGED*, SCHOOL RELATED ACADEMIC CONFLICTS AND THOSE THAT WOULD BE EXCUSED BY THE SCHOOL FOR REGULAR ATTENDANCE RECORDS, I.E. ILLNESS, DEATH IN THE FAMILY, RELIGIOUS HOLIDAY.

*Individual needs will be addressed as they occur. This system is subject to modification by the director.

NO SHOWS! The student will be unable to receive credit for the performance.
For ALL absences, the following procedure must be followed by the student and parent:
  • Director must be notified ASAP before the performance (Band is a team activity and preparations must be made to account for missing players).
  • An “Absentee Request Form” must be filled out. Forms can be downloaded in Google Classroom or by clicking here
  • For illness, a parent note must be submitted via email or paper.
  • Although cleared by the school office, absences from a band activity (not including regular daily rehearsals) that same day must be cleared with the director as well–please call or email the director.
  • Follow-up is the sole responsibility of the student!
  • A Concert Makeup Assignment will be issued only for excused absences and can be obtained by asking the director. Due one week prior to missed concert (or one week after if its due to illness)
The mere filing of an absentee request form does not constitute whether an absence is excused.

CONFLICTS WITH BAND

Resolving scheduling conflicts between band and other activities or events are the responsibility of the student. Rehearsal and performance schedules are given out in advance so that arrangements can be made. When outside activities create hardships concerning band, unless it is a rare and unusual situation that may only happen once, the student will need to consult with the director about alternatives that may be possible. Students should have a calendar and be aware of all band dates well ahead of schedule. It is the policy of the band to assist students when conflicts occur within the scope of the band policy. All conflicts in regards to performances should be worked out in favor of the student’s responsibility to band.
